The Trap of Needing to Know Before You Move
Why over-preparing, over-researching, and waiting for clarity might be keeping you stuck.
You keep waiting for a sign.
A guarantee.
A sense of certainty.
But what if the clarity you’re craving only comes after you move?
Somewhere along the way, we were taught that smart people don’t leap without a plan. So we map, we analyze, we make backup plans for our backup plans until one day we realize we’re not planning anymore… we’re hiding.
Every week, I unpack a common decision trap—something that’s draining your energy, confusing your mind, or costing you peace. Think of it as a reset button for your week. This week’s trap is sneaky because it feels responsible. But really, it’s fear in a business suit.
What If Clarity Doesn’t Come First?
There’s a lie we often believe:
“If I just think about this long enough, I’ll be sure.”
Most of the time, clarity doesn’t come before movement. It comes because of movement.
You make the call.
You hit publish.
You say the quiet truth out loud.
And then something shifts—inside you.
That shift?
That’s where real clarity begins.
I Know This Trap Because I’ve Been There
I’ve waited to move until I could see the whole staircase.
I’ve delayed content because I wasn’t sure how it would land.
I’ve stayed in misaligned jobs because “at least I knew what to expect.”
I’ve paused passion projects because I wasn’t sure how to monetize them.
To be honest, I knew those choices weren’t rooted in wisdom. They were rooted in fear.
Fear of failure
Fear of regret,
Fear of looking messy or unsure.
But progress is messy and waiting for certainty has never made me feel safe—just stagnate.
What’s the Cost of Waiting?
This trap doesn’t just slow you down. It shrinks you.
It tells you your intuition isn’t enough.
It teaches you to second-guess instead of self-trust.
The longer you wait to feel “ready,” the more disconnected you become from what you really want and the more comfortable being stuck starts to feel.
But stuck doesn’t mean safe.
And slow doesn’t always mean strategic.
Sometimes it just means scared.
This Thursday in Untrapped Moves…
I’m sharing:
Why so many of us confuse overthinking with wisdom
How to spot the difference between discernment and delay
A simple check-in that helps me move even when clarity feels foggy

Upgrade to the paid tier to get access to the full breakdown. We’re not meant to know everything before we move. But we are meant to trust ourselves enough to begin.
Let me know if this one hit home. Or just leave a quiet “mmhmm” in the comments. I’ll take it. We’re in this together.
